This is a great opportunity to lead L&D in the UK for a Global manufacturing and distribution organisation and reporting into the UK HR Director. As the Head of Learning & Development you will be responsible for developing and delivering the L&D strategy for the UK and act as the no.2 for the HR team. The company has very ambitious plans around people development/upskilling and apprenticeship schemes alongside D&I and sustainability. Right now the business really needs someone to grasp L&D and has a real need for People Development. This therefore represents an ideal opportunity to really own and develop a robust and creative L&D strategy and plan.
This position will focus across a number of key areas while developing and defining the L&D strategy and roadmap for a diverse workforce that is geographically spread across three major locations in the UK: performance & development processes, talent management and succession planning, leadership development and functional capabilities and upskilling. This workforce includes all head office functions, sales, manufacturing/engineering and customers, with a c.1,500 headcount. The position currently has three reports, one of whom manages a large training team and a national training academy.
To be successful in this position you must be able to demonstrate having put in an effective L&D operating model and clearly defined strategic L&D and talent management plan and roadmap. You will have preferably led L&D at a senior level within a UK manufacturing and engineering led company and be passionate about people & leadership development, cultural change, engagement and upskilling. It goes without saying that you will be a confident communicator able to build relationships with senior stakeholders with a collaborative, agile and adaptable approach. There will also be a requirement to get involved in the detail and operational delivery.
From a location perspective you will need to be based around Manchester or Liverpool areas, or the West Midlands. While you will only be expected to be in the office for a maximum of 1-2 days per week, there will be a requirement to build relationships in both of these locations.
